A heart attack occurs when something obstructs the flow of blood to the heart. Common symptoms of a heart attack are sweating, difficulty breathing, chest pain, and nausea. In women, a common symptom is back pain. If you believe someone is having a heart attack, call 911 immediately. Give the patient 2-4 baby aspirin, if possible, and loosen any restrictive clothing. It is important to calm the patient trying to reduce anxiety while waiting for EMS to arrive.

You can prevent cardiovascular disease with a healthy diet, regular exercise, managing stress, controlling diabetes, controlling high blood pressure, and stopping smoking.
